Boarding Times
Passengers checking-in on St Mary’s should wait in front of the harbour office for a staff member to meet them.
We ask all passengers to be at the designated check-in point 20 minutes before the advised departure time.
Unfortunately, we can’t offer any refunds or credit if you’re late. We advise that you allow plenty of time for your journey as the roads to Penzance can get busy, especially during school holidays.
Once passengers are onboard, they will not be able to leave the vessel again until arrival at their destination.
Identification
We will need to see proof of identity before boarding. Please ensure that you have your confirmation ticket or boarding passes to hand.

The journey time on our freight vessels is approximately 5 hours.
Please be aware that due to factors beyond our control, and to ensure the safety of all persons, the Master may have to take the difficult decision to restrict or cancel the carriage of passengers.

Luggage allowance
There’s no need to distinguish between hand luggage and hold luggage.
Passengers should be aware there is no dedicated space for passenger luggage onboard. Luggage may be placed in a container or in the hold depending on number of passengers and luggage carried.
Agree with the 20kg max statement. Also, this should probably state standard luggage bags, as anything non-standard can be more difficult to store in the ship’s accommodation.
Any standard luggage bags more than 20kg or non-standard items should be declared at the time of booking, and if necessary, booked as freight (not sure what preferred procedures for freight booking would be).
Please note:
- To protect the health and safety of our employees no single item of hold luggage is permitted to weigh more than 20kg.
- The vessel master reserves the right to search hold and hand luggage for the purposes of vessel security.
Once loaded into our containers it cannot be accessed again until it’s been unloaded after arrival at the vessel’s destination.
Arriving in St Mary’s
All passengers and luggage must disembark the vessel on arrival.
If you’re staying on St Mary’s, for a small charge per bag your luggage can be taken to your accommodation when you arrive, payable to a local haulage firm. Write where you’re staying on your luggage label, and they’ll leave an invoice when they deliver your bags.
You can also arrange to have your luggage delivered back to the ship for your return journey. If you would rather collect your luggage in person from St Mary’s Quay, either note this on your luggage label or simply leave off the accommodation address and inform the quay staff at Penzance Harbour.
Departing St Mary’s
Passengers checking-in on St Mary’s should wait in front of the harbour office for a quay staff member to meet them.
We ask all passengers to be at the designated check-in point 20 minutes before the advised departure time.
Dangerous goods
No dangerous goods are to be carried onboard the Gry Maritha or Gugh.
