Gugh

Gugh is Isles of Scilly Freight’s newest vessel in the fleet.  The 22m landing craft came into service in June 2024,  built in Exeter by UK shipbuilder by Coastal Workboats, allowing freight to be transported direct to shore almost anywhere on any island.

Gry Maritha

Gry Maritha is Isles of Scilly Freight’s main cargo vessel, and has been operating the route between Penzance and Scilly since 1989.  The 37.6m vessel is due to be replaced by a new purpose-built freight vessel in 2026.

Traveling on working freight vessels

When considering travel on our freight vessels, passengers should be reminded that these are working vessels with the ability to carry passengers in times of need.

To travel on either Gugh or Gry Maritha, all passengers must:

  • Be comfortable with, and able to climb ship and quay ladders.
  • Have a valid form of photo ID for boarding.
  • Be accompanied by an adult if aged 12 – 15.
  • Not be over 28 weeks pregnant.
  • Make staff aware of any mobility issues or special assistance needed prior to confirming travel.
