Isles of Scilly Freight – Operational Update, Thursday 15th January 2026
Gry Maritha is due to depart on Saturday at approximately 15:00. The vessel will be accompanied by the tug Obervargh which will also be carrying freight supplies. All sailings remain subject to weather conditions, however the weather forecast looks favourable.
The Penzance freight team will be coordinating the loading of Gry. Current expectations are that cargo will be discharged on Sunday morning.
We recognise that these sailings sit outside of the usual schedule but the impact of Storm Goretti has seen a significant increase in freight volumes to Scilly and we recognise the immediate urgency to deliver supplies to Scilly.
We would like to sincerely thank customers and partners for their flexibility and determination as we work through this challenging period.
Further updates will be shared as plans are confirmed.
Operational Update – Change to Tean schedule
Please be advised that there has been a change to the published schedule for the Tean.
The vessel is now aiming to depart for St Mary’s tomorrow, Thursday 15 January 2026.
We will continue to monitor the situation and will provide further updates as more information becomes available.
Operational Update – Freight Capacity, Monday 12th January 2026
We would like to reassure the island community that sufficient freight capacity is in place to support the movement of building materials and essential supplies over the coming weeks, helping to facilitate repairs and recovery following the damage caused by Storm Goretti.
Alongside our scheduled freight services operating with Tean and our own landing craft Gugh, we are planning additional freight sailings with Gry Maritha over the coming week to help meet demand.
For customers requiring added flexibility, our Hayle freight depot remains available and can securely store building materials and other goods until they are ready to be shipped.
If you have upcoming freight requirements or would like to discuss capacity or timings, please contact the Freight Office, who will be happy to assist.
We remain fully focused on keeping supplies moving and continuing to support the island community.
Operational Update – Friday 9th January 2026
Further to the impacts of Storm Goretti, we can confirm that Isles of Scilly Freight is continuing to load vessels in line with the scheduled sailings. Our intention is to sail as soon as it is safe to do so, which is currently anticipated to be in the early hours of Saturday morning.
In recognition of the significant disruption to road travel across Cornwall, including road closures and access issues, we will continue to accept chilled and perishable goods throughout today in order to support suppliers and maintain essential supply chains to the islands.
Conditions remain challenging, and our teams are closely monitoring the situation to ensure operations can resume safely at the earliest opportunity. We will continue to provide updates as more information becomes available.
Thank you for your continued patience and understanding.

Isles of Scilly Freight – Operational Service Update | January 2026
Further to our last update on the 31st December, we can report that work on Gry Maritha’s windlass continues at pace.
As a reminder and to provide additional reassurance to our customers and the island community, our lifeline freight service will continue to operate in line with the published schedule throughout this period.
To provide additional resilience, we have chartered Tean alongside our own landing craft, Gugh, to support cargo operations and ensure services continue to run to the same schedule as Gry Maritha.
Frozen goods will be included on today’s sailing, Monday 5 January 2026.
We recognise that any operational change can be challenging and we remain fully committed to minimising the impact on customers and businesses across the islands.
Thank you for your continued patience, understanding and support. We will provide further updates as work progresses.
Gry Maritha – Operational Service Update | December 2025
On 12 December, Gry Maritha sustained damage to her windlass while berthing in St Mary’s during a period of significant swell. The vessel has continued to operate throughout the Christmas period. However, in consultation with our surveyors, she has been operating under a weather limitation to ensure the continued safe operation of cargo services. This has resulted in some disruption to scheduled sailings in the run-up to Christmas as we have worked carefully within safe weather windows.
Our technical teams have been actively exploring options to repair the windlass. Due to the age of the vessel, replacement parts for the damaged shaft are no longer available and alternative windlass solutions would require several months to manufacture and install. As a result we have taken the decision to machine a new shaft. This work commenced prior to Christmas and, once completed, the new shaft will be installed as quickly as possible. We anticipate this process will take several weeks.
We want to reassure customers and island communities that the lifeline freight service will continue to operate in line with the published schedule throughout this period. To provide additional resilience, we will be chartering Tean alongside our own landing craft, Gugh, to support cargo operations. In addition, we plan to bring forward the dry-docking of Scillonian III to complete her maintenance period earlier than planned, enabling her to return to service and further support freight operations.
This approach has been carefully planned to minimise disruption and maintain a reliable service while repair works are underway. We recognise that any operational change can be challenging and we remain fully committed to reducing the impact on customers and businesses across the islands.
Thank you for your continued patience, understanding and support. We will provide further updates as work progresses.
